The variety
Finette is a premium everbearer from Flevo Berry. The variety stands out due to its excellent fruit quality and outstanding fresh flavour. This variety maintains its size well, allowing for a high percentage of first-class fruit to be picked throughout the season. The bright red, juicy fruits have a strikingly beautiful gloss.
The cultivation
The variety is characterised by its perfect fruit set and fits into various cultivation systems. Finette is not only suitable for covered spring and summer cultivation in substrate but can also be grown in winter under lit conditions. For maximum yield, a planting density of 6 to 7 plants per metre is recommended. Cultivation in tunnels is also well possible, in which case we advice planting 5 plants per metre. Finette has a continuous production pattern.
Finette is a manageable crop, with branches that are long and sturdy enough. This makes the fruits easy to pick. To ensure optimal fruit quality and flavour, it is advisable to maintain a short picking interval. Regular harvesting contributes to retaining the fruits’ characteristic flavour and texture.
The variety shows strong tolerance to powdery mildew, both on the plant and fruit. A point of attention with this variety is the yellowing of old leaves after the first flush. Leaf yellowing occurs less with stable growth. The use of fresh or ambient plants is recommended to promote uniform growth and minimise leaf yellowing. Notably, yellowing is not observed in soil cultivation.
Harvest and sales
Finette has a bright, fresh red colour, and the strawberries are surprisingly juicy. Thanks to its excellent fruit quality, this premium variety remains beautiful and flavourful for a long time, making it suitable for the premium segment in supermarkets. Due to its appearance and excellent fresh taste, Finette is also very well suited for direct farm-gate sales.
