Variety
Falco is a short-day variety that produces large strawberries in the mid-season. It is a very robust variety that thrives during extended daylight periods, when the strawberries develop an excellent flavor. The large, uniform berries are juicy, fresh, intensely red and have a firm texture. The fruit resists bruising and maintains firmness even in warm conditions. Falco was released by Flevo Berry in 2018 and complements other varieties in the breeding program, such as Sonsation.

Cultivation
Falco averages five flowers per truss. High yield require well-developed, robust plants with multiple crowns. The chill requirement is approximately 1.300 hours below 7° Celsius. Flower initiation begins later than Elsanta. It is advisable to maintain low nitrogen levels before flower initiation and extend the initiation period as long as possible.

The variety is well-suited for open field and tunnel production. Timely planting of fresh plants is crucial. In open ground cultivation, harvest delays are possible using heavy waiting bed plants. Substrate cultivation is feasible with well-developed, heavy tray plants. Falco has no special nutrient requirements and is a vigorous grower. Flower trusses are at leaf length, and the flowers have good pollen quality, ensuring excellent fruit set. The berries are quite large (averaging over 28 grams), well-displayed, and easy to pick. Some of the first strawberries can be exceptionally large and slightly grooved.

Falco exhibits strong tolerance to Phytophthora cactorum and good tolerance to Botrytis and Rhizoctonia. In open field cultivation, Falco shows strong tolerance to powdery mildew, although mildew prevention is necessary for table-top cultivation. While Falco is robust, caution is adviced when planting it in soils containing Verticillium, especially in combination with nematodes.

Harvest and sales
Falco berries are intensely red and should not be picked too early to preserve their flavor. Early picking is unnecessary. The strawberries have excellent shelf life, maintaining their taste and gloss during storage. The fruit is suitable for both direct sales and distribution through retail chains.
