Variety
Florice is one of the latest everbearing varieties of Flevo Berry. Many desired characteristics come together in this variety. The tasty fruits have an intense red color with slightly light-red shoulders, providing a very fresh appearance. In terms of fruit skin firmness, the variety ranks among the top strawberries, while the flesh is juicy, fruity, and not overly firm. Florice has a high picking performance thanks to the relatively high average fruit weight and minimal occurrence of deformed fruits.
Cultivation
Florice is a variety that should not grow too exuberantly to maintain a good balance. In terms of nutrition, the variety does not have unusual requirements. However, a proper irrigation strategy plays a crucial role in creating the perfect balance between generative and vegetative development. Florice performs at its best when exposed to ample light and relative high temperatures.
Depending on the desired harvest schedule, various plant types can be used. When the balance in plant development is achieved, crop maintenance remains limited, requiring only the regular removal of aged leaves. Florice exhibits good resistance to root diseases and has proven to be among the most powdery mildew-tolerant varieties in trials. Florice is suitable for all cultivation systems and performs exceptionally well in a greenhouse even during a warm summer.
Harvest and sales
Florice’s fruits are short-conical, which distinguishes them from most everbearing varieties. This characteristic makes them readily acceptable in various markets where short-day varieties typically dominate. The brix content is comparable to that of Favori and remains consistent throughout the season. In good circumstances growers should be able to produce at least 1.5 kilogram of fruit per plant with an average above 9 brix. After harvesting, Florice is highly transportable, and its shelf life in the supply chain is exceptionally good.
