The variety
Flynt is an alternative for Faith. Flynt is developed for the late season and has a comparable harvest schedule. However, the fruit quality is better, and the proportion of first-class fruit is higher. The strawberries are bright red, conical, and not susceptible to bruising. The fruit quality remains good under warm conditions.
The cultivation
Flynt distinguishes itself in the late segment by its compact growth with upright leaves. Where a planting density of 2.5 to 3 plants per metre is recommended for Faith, Flynt can be planted at a slightly higher density. Depending on the type of soil, this is 3 to 3.5 plants per metre. This, combined with the higher proportion of first-class fruit, can lead to better returns.
Not only does the plant itself remain compact, but the trusses also are relatively short. This means the fruit is protected by the foliage against weather influences such as rain and direct sunlight.
Harvest and sales
The harvest period is similar to Faith. Further delay in production by covering with straw mulch.
The beautiful gloss and bright red colour of the fruit create a fresh appearance. The firm fruit is juicy. Thanks to its firmness and excellent shelf life, the fruit is suitable for both direct sales and sales through the retail channel.
